What we supply

Bonded abrasives

Grinding wheels, cutoff wheels and depressed center wheels from one inch to sixty inches in diameter — any thickness, any bond type, any reinforcement. If it mounts on a spindle, we can source it.

Coated abrasives

Belts, discs, rolls and sponges in every grit, in aluminum oxide, silicon carbide, zirconia and ceramic. Cut to the size your machine actually takes.

Why shops buy from us

We know the application

Tell us what you're cutting and what's going wrong. Wrong wheel for the job is the most expensive mistake in the shop.

We deliver ourselves

Local orders go out on our trucks, not a freight terminal. Farther out, we ship direct.

You talk to an owner

Two people run this company, and one of them has been doing this for 44 years. When you call, you get an owner.

Not sure what you need?

Send us the material, the machine and the finish you're after. We'll come back with a recommendation and a price.

Bonded abrasives

One inch to sixty inches in diameter. Any thickness, any bond, any reinforcement.

Sizes

We supply wheels from small mounted points and die grinder wheels up through sixty-inch diameters for large stationary equipment. Thickness is specified to your machine — from thin cutoff wheels through heavy grinding sections.

Bond types

Vitrified, resinoid, rubber and metal bonds. The bond controls how fast the wheel gives up worn grain and exposes fresh cutting edges, so matching it to your material and feed rate is where wheel life comes from.

Reinforcement

Non-reinforced, single and double fiberglass reinforced. Reinforcement is what lets a wheel survive side load and higher operating speeds, and it's often the difference between a wheel that lasts and one that fails.

Wheel types we stock and source

Cutoff wheels Depressed center Straight grinding Type 27 & 28 Cup wheels Mounted points Surface grinding Centerless Snagging wheels Toolroom wheels

Tell us the job, not the part number

Most shops call us with a material and a problem — burning, glazing, short wheel life, poor finish. That's enough for us to spec the wheel. Part numbers are welcome, but never required.

Coated abrasives

Belts, discs, rolls and sponges. Every grit, four grain types, cut to your machine.

Formats

  • Belts — narrow, wide and file belts, made to your exact width and length
  • Discs — PSA, hook and loop, fiber and quick-change
  • Rolls — shop rolls, handy rolls and continuous rolls
  • Sponges — flexible sanding sponges and pads for contour work
  • Sheets — hand sheets in every grade

Grit range

From heavy stock removal down through fine finishing grades. If you need a step between two grits you're already running, we can usually get it.

Grain types

Aluminum oxide The workhorse. General purpose sanding on wood and softer metals, and the most economical choice for most shops.

Silicon carbide Sharper and more friable. Glass, stone, paint, finishes and non-ferrous metals.

Zirconia Tough and self-sharpening under pressure. Heavy stock removal on steel and stainless.

Ceramic Longest life on hard alloys and high-pressure grinding. Costs more per belt, usually costs less per part.

Bring us your belt size

Odd sizes are normal here. Give us the width and length your machine takes and the material you're running, and we'll make the belt to fit.

About Liberty Abrasives

Three generations in the abrasive trade. Same family, same town, since 1981.

Bob Kucker Sr. had been working in abrasives since the 1960s when he founded Liberty Abrasives in 1981. His son, Bob Kucker Jr., grew up watching him work, joined the company in 1983 after finishing college, and took it over in 2014.

Brady Kucker joined his father in 2022, right after finishing college, and works alongside him as a partner, taking on more of the business every year.

Three generations, more than sixty years, one trade. Between Bob and Brady, every order and every quote goes through an owner. There’s no call center and no account rep who rotates out every eighteen months.

How we work

We ask what you're running before we quote. Material, machine, speed, the finish you need and what's going wrong with what you're using now. Wheels and belts are cheap compared to the labor standing at the machine, so the right product almost always wins on total cost even when it loses on unit price.

We'd rather sell you one trial belt that works than a pallet of something that doesn't.
